Muramvya, October 28, 2024 – Alphonse Nahimana, the President and CEO of the NCDP Cooperative and a Canadian resident of Burundian descent, inaugurated a new office and headquarters building last weekend on his native hill of Masango in Muramvya municipality and province (Central-West Burundi). This first-floor infrastructure will serve as the cooperative’s central office and microfinance hub, as noted by ABP on-site.
Community members in Masango and surrounding areas warmly welcome Nahimana’s various development initiatives. Over the years, he has donated high-quality maize and bean seeds and provided domestic animals, encouraging beneficiaries to share resources in solidarity chains. Among his achievements is the successful regeneration of aging banana trees, now replicated across 11 other provinces and even internationally.
In his remarks, Nahimana commended the people of Masango for their efforts, which have led to the establishment of additional NCDP cooperatives both nationally and abroad. He urged recipients of the selected seeds, regenerated banana plants, and bio-organic compost to cultivate model fields, setting an example for other agricultural cooperatives.
The event also highlighted the progress of Niragira Development Community fields, domestic livestock, and organic compost initiatives as part of Nahimana’s vision for sustainable, community-driven growth.
